“Signing Statements” have no legal foundation in America
“George W. Bush’s “signing statements,” used to nullify key provisions of new laws, are anathema to liberals and conservatives alike. His arrogant pronouncements that he will “not be bound by limits on his power” are strikingly imperial in tone, and absolutely inappropriate within the constrants imposed by our representative form of government.”Â
If Mr. Bush continues to break the law, he must be impeached. That he includes so-called “signing statements” is irrelevant. Even the president of the United States must stand before our constituitonal mandates and be judged accordingly. This president is guilty of crimes, misdemeanors, and a felonious assault upon our constitutional foundations. He must be held accoutable for his hubris, arrogance, and treason.Â
