Is it about oil?

tim | Everything... | Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Is the Iraq war about oil?  The short answer is yes.
It is about power, politics, oil pricing
and control of oil.

Unforgivable Deceit

tim | Everything... | Thursday, February 15th, 2007

It’s obvious that the Bush administration
misled Americans about Mr. Hussein’s weapons and his terrorist
connections.  We need to know how that happened and why.
http://www.angelfire.com/blues/writing/decoding.html

It is a measure of George W. Bush’s malfeasance, that he may not yet
comprehend how he has wounded this nation.  The dustbins of history are
the least he may deserve for his truculence and treason.  According to
his crimes, Mr. Bush should spend some years in prison.  While this
full measure of justice may be deferred, the American people have
delivered their verdict, and with it, some portion of justice.

CIA Corruption and other Crimes…

The recent CIA corruption is only the tip of a huge iceberg of inequity…
A failed Administration:  Corrupt and Criminal Contempt
THE SECOND MOST EXPENSIVE WAR IN AMERICAN HISTORY

But Bremer’s missing $12.8billion was just the tip of the corruption iceberg. US corporations in bed with the Republican Party’s rightwing, like Halliburton …

Loose Lips…

tim | Everything... | Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

During World War Two we were told
“loose lips sink ships.”   It still applies.

When Cheney leaked classified information which compromised our intelligence services, this was
an impeachable crime.  When apologists for this administration
remain in denial, and contradict the study group, the CIA, and
real conservatives among the GOP, this compromises the security
of our troops and exacerbates what is already a dangerous situation.

Our primary “enemy” in Iraq has become the people of Iraq who
want their country back. They have asked us to leave.  We should.
The war-mongering and lobbying for an attack on Iran by the same
neo-colonialists and profiteers who brought us skyrocketing deficits,
death, and dishonor is beyond the pale.  This treason must not prevail.

The price for enforcing the no-bid, cost-plus contracts is too high.
It is a lose-lose situation for America and Iraq.

We need new leadership.  2008 will be too late.

Act now to stop the killings of women and girls in Guatemala

tim | Everything... | Friday, February 9th, 2007

Amnesty Activism Portal The prevalence of violence against women in Guatemala today has its roots in historical and cultural values which have maintained women’s subordination and which were most evident during the 36-year internal armed conflict that ended with the signing of the United Nations-brokered Peace Accords in 1996.      Amnesty Update Portal

Help restore the Constitution

tim | Everything... | Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

We have seen five years of lost liberties
… all in the name of keeping America safe.
You and I know that we can keep America
safe and free at the same time.
We can uphold the liberties outlined in the Constitution, while at the same time ensuring our government is diligent in keeping us secure.Today, you can begin restoring the Constitution and American values. Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT) and several other senators are getting ready to introduce a bill to fix the Military Commissions Act, a law that stains our nation’s legacy as the standard-bearer for the protection of human rights, undermines American values of due process and removes important checks on the president’s power.

Help restore lost liberties — tell your senators to co-sponsor Senator Dodd’s bill today.

We are asking you to continue to stand with us right now and over the coming months as we campaign to rebuild our fundamental freedoms and ensure that Congress and the courts restore our Constitution and the rule of law.

Countless Americans were shocked and stunned last fall when Congress and the president took away due process and our freedoms by passing the un-American Military Commissions Act.  Now there’s something you can do to fix the mistake and restore our lost freedoms.

Enough already…

tim | Everything... | Sunday, February 4th, 2007

The tired whining and vapid complaints from the hangers-on who led us into disaster, betrayed our troops, and made the USA irrelevant are beyond the pale.  Our “collective future” is NOT in Iraq, Iran, China, or India… Our future is here at home.  It’s time for accountability, healing, and reconstruction here in America.  Make no mistake…  there is no turning back.

~OO~     It’s wake-up time.  While the rest of America
focuses on restoration, reform, reconciliation, and revitalization…
naysayers pontificate, spout plattitudes, and offer poor excuses.

~OO~     It’s get-a-grip time.  We have a nation to repair.
The time has passed to put these shallow diatribes on hold while we seek an honorable peace, pursue prosperity, and restore our
national purpose, commitment, and intergrity.

~OO~     The con-men who betrayed America have been relegated to the dustbins of history.  Their corruption, profiteering, moral ambivalence, and predatory self-interest can no longer be allowed to cripple our nation and disinherit working Americans.  Good riddance…

Running Roughshod over the rule of law

tim | Everything... | Thursday, February 1st, 2007
The Bush administration has run roughshod over our rights and the rule of law. With the help of phone and internet companies, the NSA has monitored phones and email without a warrant. The FBI and Pentagon are monitoring activists and peaceful groups.
All of these actions are part of a broad pattern of the executive branch encroaching on the privacy and free speech rights of Americans without real oversight. It’s time to bring this to an end.

Molly Ivins will be missed…

tim | Everything... | Thursday, February 1st, 2007

Her final column appeared less than four weeks ago, on Jan. 5. Not a lot of mellowing: “The president of the United States does not have the sense God gave a duck–so it’s up to us. You and me.”
“We are the people who run this country,” Ms Ivins said in the column published in the Jan. 14 edition of the Star-Telegram. “We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war.  ”Raise hell,” she continued. “Think of something to make the ridiculous look ridiculous. Make our troops know we’re for them and are trying to get them out of there. Hit the streets to protest Bush’s proposed surge.”

She ended the piece by endorsing the peace march in Washington scheduled for Saturday. 01-27 “We need people in the streets, banging pots and pans and demanding, “Stop it, now!’ ” she wrote.
